The mission of the Florence & Laurence Spungen Family Foundation is to improve the quality of life of individuals and families facing health challenges, and to address issues that particularly affect the Jewish community.

The foundationís current strategic priorities are:

  • Supporting Family Caregivers with education, resources, and respite

  • Improving community awareness of and access to care for Jewish genetic diseases, with a focus on the BRCA gene

  • Using the Spungen Holocaust Collection to raise awareness and facilitate discussion of the Holocaust and breakdowns in humanity

The foundationís geographic focus is on the local communities of its board members, as well as nationally and internationally, when appropriate to its mission.

A very important aspect of the Foundation's giving is the practice of ensuring that all grandchildren in the family are educated in and appreciate the need for giving back to the community. We have a 12 member Next Generation Committee intended to keep the next generational informed about the activities of the foundation. Every year, each grandchild is given an opportunity to research and fund a charity of interest to him or her.

The Spungen Family Foundation was established in 2006 by Florence Spungen. The current board of trustees includes:
