Carmel Catholic High School

For the 1st time, Zofia Gadomska will speak about her Polish parents (Stanisław & Stefania Prycak) and uncle Michał Pyrcak. The family hid 17 Jewish people in their barn in a small Polish village during WWII. One day when the uncle was out buying food, he was handed over to the Germans, sent to a concentration and was never seen again. All 17 Jewish people survived and the family was honored as Righteous Among Nations by Israel’s Yad Vashem. For students and invited guests only.

llie Merar was born in 1926 in Lauterecken, Germany. In 1933 the Nazis published an anti-Semitic article in the local paper degrading the Loeb’s retail store. At the age of eleven, Ellie and her family escaped the ever-growing anti-Semitism in Germany. They were sponsored by an American Aunt and Uncle living in Terre Haute, Indiana.

Be the Change Series - Keynote speaker: Sam Mihara, Heart Mountain internee. During WWII, Sam was imprisoned with his family at Heart Mountain, Wyoming. He was just 9 years old and was one of 120,000 Japanese Americans forced into prison camps. Today Sam is a national speaker on mass imprisonment and a lecturer at UCLA, U.C. Berkeley, and Harvard.
