Concentration Camp Ravensbrück

Eufemii Stefaniszyn sent this November 23, 1943, typed letter from Neu Sandez, Poland, to her daughter Jasiu (addressed as Johanne) at Ravensbrück, which ends with a penned greeting from Jasiu’s sister Stasia. The message in broken German provides news of several relatives and friends, and of family hardships and sadness. “Are you healthy? Your mother’s heart is always very anxious about you.” As always on incoming mail, the Ravensbrück censor removed the stamp to search for messages that might have been hidden beneath it.
