Concentration Camp Mauthausen and Subcamp Gusen
A March 11, 1941, Mauthausen Nazi SS guard’s postage free field post card to his wife at Vienna. The patriotic design pictures the Iron Cross First Class medal, awarded for bravery in combat. A July 4, 1940, Mauthausen prisoner’s formular post card notified Anna Cienciata that her husband Georg had been sent to the Gusen subcamp and that he could receive two pieces of mail per month. Camp censors marked both cards.
