JCC Chicago Hosts Premiere of One Life at Wayfarer Theater

March 7, 2024

On Thursday, March 7, the JCC Chicago hosted a premiere of the film, One Life, at the Wayfarer Theater in Highland Park, Illinois.

One Life is a biopic about Sir Nicholas Winton, the “British Schindler,” starring Anthony Hopkins and Johnny Flynn as Winton. The film delves into Winton’s rescue operation during the Second World War, wherein he helped 669 children escape Nazi persecution in Czechoslovakia.

The Spungen Family Foundation was invited to attend the premiere and showcase a selection of Nicholas Winton and Kindertransport related artifacts. Guests were able to view the artifacts before the film screening, including precious items from survivor Renata Laxova, who was on the eighth—and ultimately last—train out of Czechoslovakia.

The Spungen family has a personal relationship with the Winton family. In addition to several trips to England visiting the Winton family, the Foundation hosted Barbara Winton (Nicholas Winton’s daughter) in November 2014 for the tour of her book, If It’s Not Impossible…: The Life of Sir Nicholas Winton (2014).

One Life is in U.S. theaters starting on March 15, 2024.

Left: November 14, 2024: Dede Harris, Barbara Winton, Sam Harris, Danny Spungen, and Renata Laxova.
