Author Talk & Book Signing with Andrew Laszlo Jr.

June 13, 2025

On Friday, June 13, at 4:30 pm EST CANDLES Holocaust Museum is partnering with JCC Indianapolis to host Andrew Laszlo Jr., a second generation survivor who will be sharing the story of his father, Andrew Laszlo Sr., as told through Andrew Sr.’s book, Footnote to History: From Hungary to America, the Memoir of a Holocaust Survivor.

Andrew grew up in Papa, Hungary, and on March 19, 1944, Germany invaded Hungary. Andrew’s family was relocated to the ghetto and forced to wear the yellow star. He was conscripted into the Hungarian Labor Service. His father and mother were taken away. As the war dragged on, Andrew was sent to Bergen-Belsen concentration camp; he was there at the same time as Anne Frank. Andrew was the only member of his family to survive the Holocaust.

At twenty years old, having nothing left, Andrew escaped Russian-occupied Hungary and was eventually granted emigration to the United States. He arrived in New York Harbor on January 17, 1947, with two dollars in his pocket. He did not speak the English language. He went on to become a world-class cinematographer.

Andrew Laszlo Jr. will be selling and signing books following his presentation.

This event will also be live-streamed.
